New Technology at East Alabama Family Dentistry

Health care today is all about new technology and faster access to information.  Auburn dentist Dr. Thomas Lucas is a firm believer in staying up to date with dental technology to benefit his patients. He has integrated Cone Beam (CBCT) Imaging and CEREC (CEramic REConstruction) into his general and cosmetic dental practice in Auburn, Alabama, East Alabama Family Dentistry.

Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) is a digital scanning technology that combines the diagnostic tools of dental x-rays with 3D visual information about the teeth, jaw bone, soft tissue, facial structures and airway.  Dr. Lucas uses cone beam imaging to evaluate bone health and determine the best location for a dental implant.

CBCT dental imaging may also be used for surgical procedures or root canals to pinpoint the location of tooth roots.

CEREC is CAD-CAM (computer-aided design + computer-aided manufacturing) technology for dentistry. Dr. Lucas is able to perform a scan of the patient's teeth using 3D imaging and rendering software to create an anatomic image of the patient's tooth or area in need of an implant.

With a digital 'model' of the teeth and the mouth, Dr. Lucas can plan a restoration to rebuild the patient's bite back to health.  His design then comes to life as the milling technology of CEREC sculpts a custom crown, bridge or implant restoration based on his instructions and measurements.

East Alabama Family Dentistry Launch

Dr. Lucas and Team are excited to build a future together at East Alabama Family Dentistry.   Our vision is to provide compassionate care for our patients with an ongoing commitment to clinical excellence.

Dr. Thomas J. 'TJ' Lucas holds multiple degrees from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB).  In addition to his training and degree as a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) he has earned a PhD in Materials Engineering with an emphasis in the study of Dental Bioceramics.  Focused on the development of materials used in the design and manufacture of dental implants and dental restorations (crowns, fillings, dentures, bridges, etc.), Dr. Lucas chose the bioceramics concentration because he loves staying on the leading edge of new technological advances in dentistry.

Our goal as we grow is to make comprehensive dentistry convenient for our valued patients.  With increased availability for appointments and the addition of advanced dental treatments that Dr. Lucas enjoys providing, such as root canals and surgical procedures, we are able to address complex oral health needs.
