Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) is a digital scanning technology that combines the diagnostic tools of dental x-rays with 3D visual information about the teeth, jaw bone, soft tissue, facial structures and airway. Dr. Lucas uses cone beam imaging to evaluate bone health and determine the best location for a dental implant.
CBCT dental imaging may also be used for surgical procedures or root canals to pinpoint the location of tooth roots.
CEREC is CAD-CAM (computer-aided design + computer-aided manufacturing) technology for dentistry. Dr. Lucas is able to perform a scan of the patient's teeth using 3D imaging and rendering software to create an anatomic image of the patient's tooth or area in need of an implant.
With a digital 'model' of the teeth and the mouth, Dr. Lucas can plan a restoration to rebuild the patient's bite back to health. His design then comes to life as the milling technology of CEREC sculpts a custom crown, bridge or implant restoration based on his instructions and measurements.
